Today's seniors aren't limited to traditional retirement communities. Long Island residents aged 55 years and up are considered active adults even though they retire from the labor force. They're more mobile, with regards to income and personal interests. They lead much healthier lives too, often engaging in sports and other recreational activities that test the body and mind. In short, these are not your ordinary grandmother or grandfather sitting in a home under stringent watch.

A good example of what a senior living Long Island retirement community is today may be seen in active adult residential developments. These are places geared for individuals 55 years and over. They are a viable choice to single-family ownership and provide its residents with maintenance-free living, close proximity to well-known attractions, as well as a whole range of on-site activities and amenities. You will find a lot of the communities you encounter that present distinct concepts and may include single-family homes, condominiums, town homes, multi-family dwellings, or pre-built housing units.

Why are active adult retirement communities in Long Island so well received? In all probability it has a lot to do with the convenience it offers retired individuals even after they've quit their jobs and their children have left home. With all that room, what exactly are two people left to do but scratch their heads? If you happen to reach that point, it is time to get a fresh start inside a new environment.

Places such as these give senior citizens the ability to take it easy once again. Whenever they choose to relocate here, there are many things one can do. Adults will find enjoyment in a whole range of social, recreational, and enlightening activities. If arts and crafts are your thing, you'll be able to find this type of pastime here.

You will also find tennis courts and fitness facilities where you can workout to get fit and stay in shape. If mingling is your main agenda, clubhouses and dining facilities are available for you to make new contacts. The only elements unavailable here are daily living and health care needs. As a resident, you'll be in charge of your own dietary, medical, and laundry needs.

There's two forms of active adult senior living Long Island communities. The first is age restricted and the other is age targeted. In the us, Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) rules oversee age-restricted places. Here, 80% of the homes must include an person that is 55 years or slightly older. Individuals under the age of 55may live here, but long term residents need to be 19 or older.

In age-targeted retirement communities in Long Island, there are no age limits imposed so that you can live there. This is because developers aim their ads to folks of this particular age. Advertising campaigns are carefully structured to draw in older individuals without minor children, instead of young singles or families. While kids are not usually found living here, they are not unwanted. In fact, many community members have grandkids that visit on a regular basis.

If an active senior living Long Island community is one area you want to think about, search for one that has been master planned. These well-planned dwellings can be found so long as you do thorough research and investigation.
